Yoga

Why Yoga?

There is a huge amount of research evidence that demonstrates that yoga can help women to manage many of the common physical and psychological symptoms commonly associated with the menopause.

Regular yoga practice can help to tone and strengthen muscles strength, improve bone density, increase joint and tissue flexibility, and improve mobility and balance (which in turns helps to avoid falls, as we age). It can also help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve mood, and aid sleep.

Emma Brennan

Emma has been a yoga practitioner for around 25 years, always returning to Hatha and Iyengar based styles - and gained her teaching qualification with Ruh School of Yoga, Goa, India in 2024. Her training included Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, anatomy, philosophy, and Ayurveda, pranayama, meditation and yoga Nidra. In addition, Emma trained with Sally Parkes on her Menoyoga course. She is deeply committed to sharing the myriad benefits yoga can bring to women on their menopause journey. Emma provides a welcoming, non-intimidating, and safe space for all women who attend her classes.

The classes themselves focus on specific symptoms of menopause, and ways to alleviate or reduce them with specific asanas, pranayama & essential oils. She believes that yoga can provide a welcome opportunity for growth and help us to thrive in our ’second spring’, post-menopausal years.

Emma lives in Petworth with her son and can often be found with her nose in a book, eating cake. She’s currently studying for a menopause coaching diploma with Lauren Chiren of Women of a Certain Stage.

Upcoming Courses & Classes

Emma is starting a new regular Yoga class at Black Barn from April 2025. These will be Hatha based classes, suitable for all levels. Each session will focus on a different aspect of menopause and incorporate asanas, pranayama, relaxation techniques and essential oils to restore and support wellbeing throughout the menopause transition. Her sessions will take place at Black Barn on Monday evenings at 6.30pm, and with sufficient demand, also on Sunday mornings at 8.30am.

Emma is running two free taster classes, so that potential participants can meet her and try out a class; these will take place on:

  • Saturday 12th April 8.30am

  • Monday 14th April 6.30pm
