About Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used as an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for more than 3000 years. It uses a highly sophisticated system of diagnosis and treatment which is designed to address the underlying cause of health problems, and in doing so, can often alleviate numerous seemingly unrelated symptoms. This ability to target a range of health issues simultaneously, makes it an efficient way of supporting women through their menopausal journey, where symptoms can be varied and diverse.
Each treatment is tailored to the individual which means it can be used to address specific symptoms and issues as they arise. For a list of specific symptoms that can be targeted through acupuncture, see the FAQ section, below.
Acupuncture can also be used to maintain good health and to ensure a smoother transition through menopause, not just to tackle acute or chronic issues.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Physical and emotional well-being can be achieved by correcting energy imbalances and removing energetic blockages within the body. Throughout our life, illnesses, constitutional factors and lifestyle can cause our energy and therefore blood flow, to become blocked and deficient.
Fine, sterile needles are inserted into the body at specific acupuncture points, chosen to target the root cause of the health issues and to initiate healing within the body. Acupuncture can release blockages and rebalance the system as a whole.
-
Most people find the insertion of the needles to be painless, followed by a brief moment of tingling or heaviness. Where there is a painful condition such as frozen shoulder, then stimulation of the needles is required which can cause a more pronounced response. However, after the initial sensation settles, you should not be aware of the needles at all.
-
During the initial consultation, we will go through a detailed medical history in order to make sure that I have a full understanding of your health journey to date. I will also make physical observations of your pulse and look at your tongue. This helps me to properly analyse what the core diagnosis is from a Traditional Chinese Medical perspective and subsequently decide what the treatment principal and acupuncture point prescription will be. Once the needles are inserted, they remain in place for 20 minutes of relaxation before being removed and disposed of.
-
Generally speaking, it takes a minimum of 3 months of regular treatment to make obvious and lasting health improvements. Acupuncture works cumulatively, so with each treatment we are building on and reinforcing the improvements and changes initiated previously. With each treatment, the health changes become more permanent and tangible to a point where the body is in a natural state of balance and ceases to need reminding.
-
By stimulating the facial muscles and increasing blood flow to the face and scalp, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture aims to improve muscle tone, improve the complexion and reduce signs of ageing. This safe, non-surgical and incredibly relaxing treatment can be used to target individual ‘problem areas’ at the same time as addressing broader health issues such as tiredness, stress, dry skin, water retention, sluggish digestion and puffiness. Regular body acupuncture points are also used alongside the facial points in order to maximise the health benefits, so in reality you are getting two focused treatments rolled into one.
Common issues include:
• Reduced muscle tone
• Puffiness under the eyes
• Drooping eye lids
• Fine lines
• Frown lines
• Sagging jowls
• Hormonal acne
